Our History
Team McMillan is a fully New Zealand-owned business. Managing Director Ian Gibson is responsible for sales and general operations and assumes the day-to-day management of the company. Executive Director Bob McMillan is joined on the Board of Directors by Tim Cook, Managing Director of Collins Asset Management, who adds substantial strength to the company’s governance, growth and strategic planning. New Car Sales Manager Gavin Penfold and Used Car Sales Manager (and Bob’s son) Andrew McMillan lead the BMW sales teams, with Jonny Highton in charge of MINI sales.
In December 1985, Bob McMillan purchased Johnstone BMW (formerly known as Ross Jensen BMW) with a staff of just 17. As sales volumes increased during the mid to late-1980s plans were developed to relocated to more spacious facilities and major renovations were made to the existing building on the corner of Great South Road and Margot Street.
In November 1990, and with a staff of 30, Team McMillan BMW relocated to 7-9 Great South Road, Newmarket. Over the next 10 years the company grew steadily and substantially increased new and used BMW sales volumes, as well as parts and service.
In November 2001, Team McMillan was granted the franchise for one of three MINI Centres in New Zealand. With exclusivity and responsibility from Taupo through to Cape Reinga, Team McMillan MINI opened the country's only exclusive MINI showroom in impressive new facilities on the opposite corner of Margot Street at 11 Great South Road.
By 2005, Team McMillan had expanded again with the acquisition of the lower two floors of the Firestone Building at 11-15 Great South Road, for our undercover used car showroom, and the renovation of our existing building into the modern new car showroom, service reception, lifestyle lounge and parts and service administration that it is today.
In July 2010, Team McMillan continued to grow with the addition of the Team McMillan MINI Garage at 130 Ponsonby Road. MINI service and parts remains at Team McMillan.
Now in its 26thyear of operation, Team McMillan is New Zealand's longest-established BMW and MINI dealership, with over 80 full time, enthusiastic and loyal team members.
